Press Release

Fort Collins, Colorado

05/13/2020

Current participants have been contacted already, but we wanted to share our news to all of you as well.

With great debate and internal conflict, we have come to the conclusion that the only proper course of action is to cancel the 2020 FoCo Fondofest in full.

In working closely with the City, State, and County we have been informed of potential rules for large groups and events moving forward in a controlled manner in Colorado. There are no confirmations for the future with COVID and event promotion. Future guidelines are extremely unlikely to allow permits for a large scale event like FoCo Fondo in July. Instead of trying to reschedule for a future time after COVID, potentially double rescheduling, losing participants' availability, or overlapping another event, we've chosen to cancel and recharge for 2021.

All registrants can choose to have 50% of their entry go directly to Safe Routes to School or receive that 50% as a refund. 2020 registrants will also receive a 20% discount for 2021. To make the Safe Routes donation, please hit reply and let us know by May 31st. If we haven't heard from you, then we will process your refund June 1st. We believe Safe Routes to School's after school programs will be more important than ever when kids are able to return to school.

With a 50% refund we're trying to stay above water with our sunk costs while maintaining the ability to come back for a 2021 event. We are also giving back sponsor dollars to the small businesses that supported FoCo Fondo and are now facing financial difficulty. FoCo Fondo has always been an affordable event showcasing how amazing Northern Colorado is for riding but also an event to showcase how amazing and supportive our community is. We hope you understand that we are doing what we feel is best for everyone involved in our event and the participants.

Things to look forward to:

We'll continue with fun monthly challenges with giveaways from our partners. Check out May's challenge.
We'll be hosting a fundraiser for Safe Routes to School through Pine Brands. Details coming as soon as we finish the shirt design.
We'll keep you up-to-date on special events our partners are hosting.
When permitted, we'll look at hosting a few small gravel training rides.
If it's within your means, consider supporting one of our partners, or our charitable beneficiary, Safe Routes to School.
