I'm sad to announce that rider that passed away on Nomad Trail on Saturday was 52-year-old Loveland cyclist Rudy Hamman. Rudy was active in the Loveland cycling community, often taking part in Gale Bernhart's weekly rides. Rudy leaves behind a wife and 3 daughters. A GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $15,000.00 has been established to support his family. At the time this article was published the campaign was at $4,605.00. Rudy was found unresponsive on Nomad Trail by other cyclists around 1pm Saturday, September 19th. Those riders called 911 and preformed CPR until first responders arrived and continued to try to revive him. Unfortunately, he died at the scene by an apparent heart attack.21.
Gale Bernhardt and I are gathering information on tests, exams and locations for endurance athletes to determine if they're at risk of heart failure. Please keep an eye out for that information in the near future.
