Here is racer information sent out by Cross of the North Race Director, James Scott. There are a lot of words but they are important words so please read through it.

Hello Racers!

Thank you for pre-registering for Cross of the North 2018! We are beyond excited to be back at New Belgium, and we’re so happy you’re going to join us. Please read below for important information about the race weekend.

Don'ts

Not to start on a negative note, but there are a couple of things we need to avoid in order to maintain our relationship with New Belgium:

  • Don’t bring outside alcohol. The terms of our event liquor permit do not allow alcohol to be brought onto the venue for consumption. So just don’t.

  • Don’t enter the Buckingham neighborhood. There’s a small neighborhood immediately south of New Belgium, and they put up with a lot as it is. They shouldn’t have to put up with bike racers parking on their curbs, changing in full view of everybody, and generally being annoying in those ways that only bike racers can do. So again...just don’t park or warm up in the neighborhood.

Directions

For GPS: enter 500 Linden Street, Fort Collins. But be aware that the racer parking entrance will be west of the main New Belgium storefront, across Linden Street.

From I-25: Take exit 269B Mulberry Street/CO 14 West. Go 0.8 miles then turn right onto Lemay. Go 0.5 miles and turn left on Buckingham. Proceed on Buckingham 0.6 miles to the intersection with Linden. Cross Linden and primary parking will be on your right.

Friday

Pre-Ride

In response to popular demand, we’ve scheduled a pre-ride session from 3-4pm on Friday. Access to the course is subject to the following:

  1. All pre-riders must sign a waiver before riding the course. We will have a volunteer in the registration tent in employee parking with waivers. At least, we expect the reg tent to be up by 3pm. If you don’t see a tent in employee parking, look around for somebody with a stack of waivers.

  2. Exercise caution on the course as volunteers may still be putting the final touches on it.

  3. Remember that pre-ride is open to riders of all ages and abilities, and this isn’t a race. Show courtesy and respect to your fellow pre-riders. We honestly don’t know how many people will show up for pre-ride, so please be patient and flexible.

  4. Follow instructions from race staff. If a staffer tells you to get off the course...get off the course.

  5. On the off chance that we are still working on the course when your pre-ride is done, it sure would be awesome if you pitched in.

Riders who fail to follow these instructions may be subject to disqualification without refund for Saturday and/or Sunday races.

Also remember that sign-in and number pickup will happen in the New Belgium Liquid Center from 6-8pm on Friday, so plan to stick around, have a beer, and sign on for Cross of the North!

Friday parking: Since we are not using the CYF parking on the East side/Dogtown this year, please don’t use it on Friday, either. See instructions below.

Team Tent Dropoff

You can place your team tent on Friday. Please find Paul Bass or James Scott to get to your assigned spot. Generally, team tents will be in the employee parking lot or the area to the east, near the volleyball court/sand pit. We will send a separate email to registered team tents regarding Saturday/Sunday dropoff.

Number Pickup

We will have number pickup on Friday in the All-Staff room at the New Belgium Liquid Center from 6-8pm. We will also have merchandise for sale, and you can pick up pre-ordered merchandise, too.

Saturday and Sunday

Parking

Read carefully, as this has changed from 2017. Primary parking for the races Saturday and Sunday is at the New Belgium “Matrix” lot on the NW corner of Linden and Buckingham St. (https://goo.gl/maps/LXWAYkG7Pmt), just west of the main New Belgium entrance. Parking is also available along Linden St. You may also park on the north side of Buckingham St. Please do not park on the south side of Buckingham or along 1st, 2nd, or 3rd St. We do not want people parking in the far east dirt lot this year.

Race Registration

Same location as last year: the northeast corner of the employee parking lot off Buckingham St. The best way to reach it from the main parking is to cross Linden and walk East along the North sidewalk of Buckingham, right past the New Belgium Liquid Center. The entrance to employee parking lot and race venue is about 200 yards east of the intersection of Linden and Buckingham (https://goo.gl/maps/i9H4mmNr8a12). There should be signs and race staff to point you in the right direction.

Registration closes 40 minutes before start time.

Start

The start is on the north side of the venue. From racer parking, go through the eastern course crossing, then follow the dirt road north. From the expo area, follow the walkway from the northeast corner of the parking lot.

Do not ride west of the start grid into the loading dock area.

Pit

The pit is located west of the lime pile. Power washers will be located near the pit for in-race use.

Restrooms

Portable restrooms are available near the expo area and the pit.

Beer!

Beer is available in the expo area and on the lime pile. Bring $1s and $5s, just in case. Those make pretty good handups, too.

Kids Race

The kids race will take place at 12:05 pm on a separate course on top of the lime pile, east of the pit. Sign the waiver at the registration tent.

On behalf of the entire COTN team, we hope you have a great time this weekend!
