Not one city along the Colorado Front Range has as many trails right out your front door as FTC. You can easily stitch together 4-6hrs of MTBing from your driveway. Horsetooth and Lory Parks are among the best in the nation.  Drive a few miles up the Poudre Canyon and you can lose yourself for days.
The city and county are opening countless trails every season.
There are rumors out there that FTC will be hosting more than just the CSU mtb race in 09.  Keep an eye out for information on the ever popular New Belgium Mid-Week Short Track Series.
We are working with Net Cairns, Single Track Trails and 'Overland Mountain Bike Club to map and describe all the local trails.
Keep checking this page for up-to-date information on the local mtb scene.

We had another great day of racing at the New Belgium Short Track race this last Tuesday. Nearly 160 racers turned out for the pain. I'm pretty sure I've got the black lung now. The last race in the series is this Tuesday. Big thanks to the folks at Walrus Ice Cream for donating $200 worth of ice cream to the kids race. I've added a great video from the kids race. Check it out.
Note from the race crew:
This is pretty much the best we could do. We will continue to try hard to get the most accurate results possible and will roll out an idea to each class individually at the next event. This could be like the pro/open in that we asked them that if they get lapped (due to physical or mechanical issues) by the leaders then they can continue to race but they would not cross the finish line on the last lap and we scored everyone in order as they came across. In this case we would not count laps, just score in order as racers finish the last lap. It worked well (I think) and was the easiest way to get the most accurate results posted. Kind of an honor system in that if you did cross and were lapped you might be scored as 5th but really not.
Think about it and I will ask each class about this at the start of your event.

Natural Areas Trail Conditions
Natural Area trails are unpaved, soft surface trails. When trails are wet and muddy, they are closed to prevent resource damage. Closures are posted here and at the trailheads. Rangers monitor conditions at closed trails daily, and reopen as soon as conditions allow. To learn more, call a ranger, 970-416-2147.
Updated: Mar 6, 2010
- Coyote Ridge Natural Area:
Trail okay up to the cabin. Wet and muddy conditions exists on trail above the cabin (after 1 mile). TRAVEL BEYOND CABIN IS DISCOURAGED DUE TO DETERIORATING TRAIL CONDITION AND RESOURCE DAMAGE. Please stay on the trail and in the mud to prevent resource damage. OFF-TRAIL TRAVEL IS PROHIBITED IN THIS AND ALL FOOTHILL NATURAL AREA PROPERTIES AT ALL TIMES. Biking, trail-running, equestrian use strongly discourged.
- Coyote Ridge Natural Area:
Trail to cabin good condition. At mile 1.2, trail becomes extremely muddy. Biking, trail-running, equestrian use strongly discouraged beyond this point. Hiking OK through deep mud. PLEASE walk though mud to prevent vegetation trampling and widening of trails. This is an on-trail only site.
- Pineridge Natural Area:
CLOSED. Rangers will check again Sunday PM.
- Soapstone Prairie Natural Area:
All trails are open. Snow gaiters are recommended. Mahagony and Towhee Trails: South facing slopes are sticky and wet places, dry in others, some snow. Easily walkable. North facing are almost entirely snow drifted. Walkable if you don't mind ankle deep snow and calf deep in some places. Trail running or biking not recommended but not restricted at this time. Pronghorn Trail: Less snow but very sticky where wet. Dry in many places. Biking and equestrian use could be challenging unless trail freezes. Cheyenne Rim Trail: Runs the gamut from dry to calf-deep snow. Biking and running not recommended but not restricted.
- Soapstone Prairie Natural Area:
Cheyenne Rim trail (lower half) checked on Saturday 3/6. Due to 1/2 inch of snowfall overnight, trail was wet and sticky. Sun and wind should dry it out soon. Towhee and Mahogany checked last week. Front side dry in most places, but northfacing slopes completely snow-covered. Biking, trail-running NOT recommended on these trails. Pronghorn trail muddy in place - fair condition. Thank you for staying on trail and walking through mud.
- All other trails are open! Enjoy your natural areas!
