I’m sad to report that Fort Collins’ Niner Bikes appears to be closing down.
Multiple reports Monday indicated that Niner Bikes has paused operations, with employees laid off as parent company United Wheels evaluates the brand’s future.
The initial news was reported insustry tech editor James Huang through his n-1 Substack and Instagram, where he wrote that Niner was “winding down operations effective today” and that employees had been laid off.
Trade publication Bicycle Retailer and Industry News (BRAIN) reported that United Wheels confirmed it was pausing operations while it “evaluates and realigns the brand’s strategic direction.”
In a statement shared with BRAIN, United Wheels said customer service, warranty support, and parts availability would remain active during the transition.
“Niner’s customer service, warranty support, and parts availability will remain active throughout this period,” the company said. “We have deep respect for what Niner represents to the cycling community and to the dealers, reps and riders who have supported the brand.”
Niner has called Fort Collins home for 15 years with it’s current headquarters located off Prospect and Timberline roads. Please join me in sending positive thoughts to Sam, Nate, Chris, Brad, Linda, and all the employees affected by the closure.
