Chris Ellmer will be keeping YGR fans updated on the latest Colorado High School MTB races. Here’s his report from race #1 in Grandby.
The Colorado High School MTB season kicked off last weekend at Snow Mountain Ranch in Grandby with some impressive numbers. Just over 500 kids raced on Sunday from schools around Colorado and a few from Wyoming. Want to know where growth is in cycling – look no further.
Fort collins represented with 26 racers plus an impressive cadre of coaches and parents. Our kids were nothing short of amazing and battled with great riders to some impressive results. An afternoon thunderstorm cut the race short for our Varsity and JV boys but not before they finished a lap in the rain and hail with ear to ear grins. What is most important about these kids (young adults?) is their impressive show of leadership and good clean competition. They represent our city and our sport well!
By the numbers:
26 racers from 3 Fort Collins High School Teams
13 top 20 finishes in huge fields
3 podium spots
Team standings:
Fort Collins High 4th
Rocky Ridge Composite 8th
Poudre High 12th
Individual results are available at: Colorado MTB.org
Next race is in Leadville on September 22nd.
If you see any of the Ciclismo kids on the trails or at the local races, give them a pat on the back for a job well done!
