The following is from the FC Bikes monthly newsletter, Momentum. 

FC Bikes received an early holiday gift: City Council unanimously approved and adopted the 2014 Bicycle Master Plan! This plan is over 15 months in the making and included input from: 14 City of Fort Collins Departments, 4 Local Government Agencies,8 City Boards & Commissions, 17 Stakeholder Organizations, and Thousands of local citizens!

Council described the plan as visionary, innovative and comprehensive and praised the extensive outreach conducted to complete the plan. FC Bikes would like to thank everyone involved throughout this process and we look forward to continuing to work together to make Fort Collins a safe and enjoyable place to ride a bicycle.

Bicycle Advisory Committee Openings!

Deadline: Monday, January 15

The City of Fort Collins seeks interested residents to fill three vacancies on the Bicycle Advisory Committee, which reports to the Transportation Board. Fort Collins’ excellence as a community is due in large part to citizen participation in government and community affairs. Residents can serve as volunteers on the committee, which reviews plans for bicycle improvements and provides recommendations to the Transportation Board regarding bicycle-related policies, projects, programs and overall implementation of the Bicycle Master Plan.

If you are interested in serving on the Bicycle Advisory Committee, we encourage you to fill out an application which can be found at fcgov.com/bicycling or linked here. Applications are dueMonday, January 15, 2015.

 

Winter Cycling 101

Wednesday, January 7 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Senior Center, Prairie Sage #1

Interested in riding year-round but not sure how to get started? Winter Cycling 101 is a 2-hour presentation that teaches you how to ride safely and confidently in the winter. During this class, expert instructors will provide cycling tips for safe winter riding and recommend clothing and gear for enjoyable riding during the colder months. Registration required.

Guided Winter Ride

Saturday, January 10 from 10:00am to Noon, meet in the Senior Center Lobby

Put your winter cycling knowledge to the test and join us for a beginner’s guided ride.  We’ll start with warm drinks and a short discussion about winter cycling before heading out on the ride. This leisurely ride will allow you to practice winter riding in a group setting, build your confidence and gain skills to venture out on your own.  Registration required.

Light up the Night

Wednesday, January 14 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the parking lot entrance of Rolland Moore Park off of Shields

Did you know front lights are required ……? Don’t have one? Need replacement batteries?  Visit one of our many Light-Up-the-Night stations this Bike Winter where we’ll be making sure commuters are riding bright!  City of Fort Collins Police will be on hand to register bikes as well.
