LOVELAND, Colo. – The new Hidden Valley Trail is slated to open to the public Saturday, June 11 at Devil’s Backbone Open Space west of Loveland, Colo.

The trail runs approximately 1.8 miles, from the Devil’s Backbone Trailhead to the north end of the Wild Loop Trail. The Hidden Valley Trail is designated for mountain biking, horseback riding and trail running, and the Wild Loop Trail is now hiking only. Signs will be placed to alert visitors on which trail to use for which activity.

The Hidden Valley Trail was constructed to separate hikers from bikers and equestrians setting out from the highly popular Devil’s Backbone Trailhead, easing congestion and conflicts on the busy Wild Loop Trail.

The new trail is one of several improvements happening at Devil’s Backbone Open Space this year, which are based on feedback from open space visitors and the updated Devil’s Backbone Management Plan. Earlier this year, the Devil’s Backbone Trailhead was remodeled and expanded. Further improvements coming to Devil’s Backbone this summer will include:
A webcam on the parking area
Replacement of the water fountain
Additional interpretive materials
