Gavin Mannion Podium Longmont Criterium

Fort Collins’ Gavin Mannion has been sidelined after a late-race crash this past weekend. Mannion had lapped the field during the Longmont Criterium making contact with five to go and was well-positioned for the win. With one to go the pack slowed and Mannion was hit from behind in turn number one resulting in a slow-speed crash. He was able to extend his left arm but broke his wrist in the fall resulting in two fractures. The Human Powered Health rider was able to remount and finish the race in first place but unfortunately and much, more importantly, his next European campaign will be delayed. He had been scheduled to race Classic of Ordizia in the Basque Country on July 25.  According to team doctor, Kelby Bethards, “Gavin will likely be away from racing for at least four weeks but will be able to return to training much sooner.”  Mannion is expected to undergo surgery this Thursday with former professional cyclist, now surgeon, Dr Chris Stockburger to fix the fractures.
