As Windsor prepares to break ground on a 10-acre bike park in early 2027 and Fort Collins continues planning for a proposed 35-acre bike park, another community in the region is about to celebrate a major milestone.
The City of Laramie, Wyoming, will officially open its new 9-acre bike park on Aug. 22, continuing a growing trend of communities investing in purpose-built spaces for cyclists of all ages and abilities.
Construction began in early June behind the Laramie Community Recreation Center, between the recreation center and Laramie High School. The $1.4 million project is being built by American Ramp Company, Progressive Bike Ramps and Velosolutions Pump Tracks.
When it opens, the park will feature:
- Wyoming’s first asphalt pump track
- Four downhill gravity trails
- Three jump lines
- A bike skills development area
The project is funded through a combination of the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Grant, the 2018 Specific Purpose Tax and support from Laramie Bikenet.
While the park is not directly connected to Laramie’s trail network, it sits adjacent to the concrete multi use path connecting Regency Drive and Boulder Drive, making it easily accessible by bike.
The addition of another purpose-built bike park is good news for the cycling community across the region. Existing facilities such as the 42-acre Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, the 20-acre Berthoud Bike Park and Erie’s 12-acre bike park have become popular destinations and often experience high visitation during peak riding months. As Laramie’s new 9-acre park opens and future parks in Windsor (10 acres) and Fort Collins (60 acres) come online, riders throughout the region will have more opportunities to ride closer to home while helping distribute demand across a growing network of purpose-built bike parks.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting are scheduled for Aug. 22nd.
