Laramie Mountain Bike Series officials announced today that after 12 years and some 68 races that it was time to call it quits. The races started at the Tie City Trailhead between Cheyenne and Laramie Wyoming off I80 in 2008 and moved to the Happy Jack Trailhead in 2016. The 6+- race series were very popular with Wyoming and Colorado racers due to their affordable prices, legitimate old school cross country courses (often 20+ miles for the Open races), post-race meals, and door prizes provided by local shops and sponsors. The only recurring complaint from racers, volunteers and spectators alike were the mosquitoes that would try to haul you off on any given June or July evening. These races had a very 1990s golden-age-of-mountain-bike feel to them. Racers often traveled 70+ miles each way for the Tuesday slugfest.

Here is the official statement from Laramie Racing:

“After 68 races in 12 years, it’s time to put the Laramie Mountain Bike Series to bed. It’s been great, but it’s also gone on long enough. We want to thank everyone who has come out to race over the years, and our partners who have helped make the Series so successful. We also can’t say enough great things about our volunteers and, although we have tried, feel like we cannot express enough how much we appreciate their help.
This is not to say that Laramie Racing is closing up shop. While we have no immediate plans for our next event, we will still be around and ready to put on quality races as the inspiration comes to us.”
