Shane Garland has called Fort Collins home for the past 10 years after moving here for graduate school at CSU. He works as a mechanical engineer in a thermal energy research lab on campus and races with the Miiflo Cycling Team. Originally from St. Louis, MO, Shane is the lucky type of cyclist who truly loves to ride all the bikes: cyclocross, gravel, mountain, and road. Don’t let his humble demeanor fool you; he’s one of the stronger riders in town, especially when the road turns upward.

On any given day, you might find him climbing Rist Canyon, linking up big gravel loops around Red Feather Lakes, chasing golden hour at Lory and Horsetooth, or lining up for COTN in the fall. When asked which is his favorite bike, he replied with “I love them all, so whichever one I’m currently riding,”.

Music is another constant. Shane credits family, friends, and the algorithm, aka our robot overlords, for shaping his taste. His 10 Tracks playlist has been a soundtrack for post-ride moments when the body is spent but the endorphins are still flying. “There’s a certain feeling you get after a particularly strenuous ride; I think you know it. You’re dead tired and only want to lie on the floor but at the same time those endorphins are pumping, and you’re satisfied with the effort. It’s one of my favorite feelings. I’ve played these songs throughout the years while I soak up those blissful moments, dancing around the living room, refusing to surrender to the fatigue for just a little longer.”
