Ollie’s Bike Parade kicks off the 11th annual Open Streets on Sunday, October 18th, bringing a movie-themed celebration to Laurel Street before five hours of car-free community activities.

Open Streets runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Laurel Street between Mason and Shields streets. The free event temporarily closes the street to motor vehicles, giving people space to walk, bike, roll, explore activities and connect with their community.

Ollie’s Bike Parade

Ollie’s Bike Parade honors Oliver Stratton, a bike-loving child who was killed by a distracted driver while riding his bicycle near his home. The driver had been texting in the period leading up to the crash. Oliver’s family created the parade to honor his life and help promote safer streets.

This year’s theme is The Movies. Families are invited to decorate their bikes, dress as favorite movie characters or simply show up ready to ride.

Meet at InCycle North, 202 W. Laurel St., at 9 a.m. for bike decorating. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the west end of Laurel Street and Shields Street, serving as the official kickoff to Open Streets. After the parade, visit the Ollie’s Bike Parade booth for photo opportunities, resources and ways to get involved in road safety advocacy.

Open Streets Schedule

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Laurel Street becomes a public space for people rather than motor vehicles. Visitors can explore the route at their own pace and take part in activities throughout the day.

Planned highlights include:

  • Live music along the route.
  • Interactive arts and cultural activities led by local providers.
  • Family-friendly experiences and opportunities to try something new.
  • Food and dessert trucks offering food and refreshments.
  • Walking, biking, rolling and skating on a street temporarily closed to motor vehicle traffic.
  • Ollie’s Bike Parade booth, with photo opportunities, resources and ways to support safer streets.

Open Streets highlights how streets can serve as shared community spaces while encouraging active transportation and connections between neighborhoods, downtown and Colorado State University.
