Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming riders will soon have another mountain bike destination within easy driving distance. Trailhead location.

According to Dustin Humphreys, Project Manager for the City of Cheyenne, the new Belvoir Ranch trail system will officially open on July 1st with a 5:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony.  The trails will then be open to hikers, non-motorized bicycles, Class 1 (pedal-assisted) e-bikes, and power-driven mobility devices (ex. wheelchairs) only. Horses and other motorized vehicles are not allowed.

Located west of Interstate 25 and south of Happy Jack Road, the Belvoir Ranch trailhead is approximately 65 miles from Fort Collins, making it about a one-hour drive for most Northern Colorado riders.

The initial phase includes 12.8 miles of purpose-built singletrack constructed by Todd Thibodeau and TPT Trails. Riders can expect a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced-intermediate terrain, with roughly nine miles designed as flow-oriented trails and four miles featuring more technical riding, including jumps and wooden features. Class 1 e-bikes will be permitted.

The trail system sits on nearly 20,000 acres of former ranchland at approximately 7,000 feet in elevation. Trailhead amenities include parking, restrooms, a picnic shelter, and an information kiosk. Camping is not currently allowed, although it remains part of the property’s long-term master plan.

While the July opening marks a major milestone, access to the southern portion of the ranch remains unresolved. A Union Pacific Railroad corridor bisects the property, preventing public access to the Big Hole area and future trail connections toward Colorado. According to Cowboy State Daily, no significant progress has been made in securing public access across or under the Union Pacific tracks despite years of discussions between the City of Cheyenne and the railroad.

For now, riders will have nearly 13 miles of new Wyoming singletrack to explore, with hopes that future railroad crossings could eventually connect Belvoir Ranch to larger trail networks near Red Mountain, Soapstone Prairie, and the Colorado state line.
