This past weekend marked race #2 for the NoCo high school teams in Steamboat Springs!
The weather was incredible, the temperatures perfect, and the trails riding fast for some great racing. The NoCo teams improved on their already incredible start to the season in Leadville two weeks ago! Coach Jeremy Norris gives us the following recap.
Norris races professionally for Health Advocates Racing Team, Coaches High School with Ciclismo Racing, and is a coach with Ignition Coaching.
Alaina Smith(FoCo) landed herself on the podium with 3rd in Varsity Girls with her teammate Kate Miller in 8th.
Andrew Morris(Rocky), starting last row after missing Leadville, finished 2nd in Varsity Boys with Abe Cooley(FoCo) in 8th with Cole Shortridge(Poudre) rounding out the top 10.
JV Boys saw Page Ligget(Independant-Berthoud) in 5th with Kannon Johnson(Rocky) in 6th.
In Sophomore Girls, Isabel Troxell(Horsetooth Composite) rode a strong podium ride to 2nd with Olivia Helgerson(FoCo) 6th.
Nate Lowe(Horsetooth Composite) took a commanding win in Sophomore Boys while Rocky Mountain stacked the top 10 with Max Abernathy and Caden Paroz, on the podium in 3rd and 4th, and Lachlan Morrison in 6th just behind.
Korynne Collins(Independant – Fort Collins) dominated the Freshman Girls, setting the fastest lap time of all female athletes for the day just over a minute faster than the winner of Varsity Girls on her first lap.
Another last row starter, Desmond Mohr(Rocky), passed over 70 Freshman Boys to take the win by over two minutes. Rowan Christiansen(FoCo) chased hard to finish on the podium in a strong 3rd place.
Rocky Mountain and Fort Collins won their respective team divisions for the weekend, moving Rocky Mountain into 1st in the season standings for Division 2 and Fort Collins into 2nd in Division 3 so far. Poudre finished 3rd in Division 3 and is sitting 3rd in the season standings. Horsetooth Composite finished 4th in Division 2 and is sitting 4th in the season standings.
