Fort Collins had three racers head down to the Paula Higgins Memorial Record Challenge in Moriarty, NM this past weekend. Both Matt Skrdla and Jim Dickerson set new National Records in the 40k and 20k distances. Mike Williams won his race but was off the record pace by a few seconds.

All three racers also podiumed in the time trial at Masters Road Nationals in August. Jim Dickerson won the 65-69 Matt Skrdla was 2nd in the 50-54 race and Mike Williams was 3rd in the 55-59 race. Congrats, guys.

NoCo Results

  • Matt Skrdla- 48:45:63 Men’s 50-54 40K 1st place and a new National Record. The previous record time was 49:29.94 held by Kevin Metcalfe and set in Sattley, Calif. on 6/12/13.
  • Jim Dickerson 25:36:17 Men’s 65-69 20k 1st place and a new National Record. Jim set the previous record last year with a time of 25:43:85
  • Mike Williams- 50:40:47 Men’s 55-59 40k 1st place but off the record time of 50:18.478 set by Kevin Metcalf in Sattley, Calif. on 8/12/18

The certified 20k and 40k time trial courses are notoriously fast with roughly 100 feet of elevation change (half that for the 20km), reasonably good chip seal, and are at an elevation of 6200 feet. Almost all US road time trial records have been set at Moriarty.
