Amy Weiss, the driver convicted in the death of 10 year old Oliver Stratton, is scheduled to be released today from Larimer County’s Alternative Sentencing Program. Weiss will have served approximately nine months of a one year sentence that began on May 16, 2025, after receiving credit that reduced her time in custody.

As part of her court ordered sentence, Weiss was to have 12 points assessed against her driver’s license, an amount that typically results in revocation. Those points were not applied. After witnesses reported seeing her driving last year, the oversight was discovered and a DMV hearing was scheduled. It remains unclear whether that hearing has occurred or what the outcome was. YGR has requested clarification from the DMV.

Weiss was sentenced on March 7, 2025, by Larimer County Judge Kraig Ecton for the 2023 crash that killed Ollie Stratton near his home in Timnath. She received 365 days for careless driving resulting in death and 364 days for tampering with physical evidence. Both misdemeanor sentences were ordered to be served concurrently through the Work Release Program. Fines were suspended.

The delayed reporting date allowed Weiss to attend an out of state college graduation and be home for Mother’s Day. As part of work release, she was allowed to leave the facility for up to 12 hours per day for work and other approved activities and retain personal items including her cell phone.

Weiss did not appeal her sentence and was no longer employed by Poudre School District at the time she entered the program. At least part of her employment during that period was at The Loft in Loveland.

Investigators determined Weiss was texting and making phone calls moments before striking Ollie on August 2, 2023. Following the crash, she deleted messages and provided false statements to law enforcement.
