The 36th annual Cascade Cycling Classic in Bend, Oregon started Thursday for the amateur field. Butler Cycling Team p/b Climate Master, based in Fort Collins, took a three man squad to compete in the Category 2 race. The squad’s General Classification hopeful is Nate Taggatz while Nate Prewitt and Grant VanHoose (Grant the Intern- GTI) will look to make some noise in the climb heavy road and circuit races.
Stage 1 Recap Via the Butler Cycling Facebook page: Nate Taggatz is leading the team, taking 14th in the time trial with Nate Prewitt in 39th and Grant VanHoose in 57th. The guys are excited for tomorrow’s 97 mile road race finishing up to Mt. Bachelor where the final climb is sure to see a shake up in the general classification.
GTI took some time out to bring you all a quick look at the equipment that he and Taggatz will be rolling on through out stages 2, 3 and 4 in the road race, criterium and circuit race.
Stage Breakdown:
Stage 1- 16 mile out and back time trial, mostly flat with a couple rollers
Stage 2- 97 mile road race around the Cascade Lakes, finishing on a 10 mile climb up to Mt. Bachelor Ski Area
Stage 3- Flat, 4 corner downtown criterium. Tight first corner where it’s common to utilize the sidewalk.
Stage 4- 18 mile circuit, 2’s will race 4 laps. Brutal finishing climb after the finish line changed last year.
