This week’s YGR 10 Tracks DJ is Olivia Helgerson. Olivia just wrapped up her final season racing with Ciclismo/SendTown on the Fort Collins High School Mountain Bike Team. A legacy rider with the Colorado High School Cycling League, she raced all four years, finishing this season in third place overall in the JV category.

A mountain biker at heart, Olivia has lived in Fort Collins for nine years after moving from Des Moines, Iowa, when her mom’s job brought the family to Colorado. She was eight at the time and says she was essentially raised here. Her favorite places to ride are Mill Creek and the Gold Trails at Curt Gowdy, and one of her all-time favorite bikes was her Cannondale Scalpel Lefty, the first full suspension bike she ever rode.

Olivia listens to this playlist to get in the right headspace before races. She starts with high-energy tunes about forty minutes before staging, then transitions to jazz ten minutes before the start to calm her nerves. Her favorite drink is a sweet mocha with caramel, though she admits she will drink just about anything coffee-related. Her biggest musical influences are her parents, especially her dad, Tharen Helgerson, who also coaches for Ciclismo and will be featured in an upcoming 10 Tracks.

Next fall, Olivia will head to Montana State University, where she plans to study biomedical engineering on a pre-med track.
