On June 14th Jeff Wicks was left on the side of the road with life threatening injuries by Peggy Brown. Brown had turned in front of Wicks with her car as he was riding his bike in Loveland, after Brown realized that she had hit the cyclist, she left the scene, she left Jeff on the pavement with the real possibility of dying in the middle of the road, alone. If it wasn’t for a witness following her and calling police, she may never have been caught. She may never had been brought to potential justice. Luckily Jeff and his family are recovering but they have been through hell and back. The cycling community needs to send a message that it not ok to leave husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, daughters and sons on the side of the road to fend for themselves.
On January 30th, Peggy Brown will be sentenced for the hit and run. The Wicks’ family is encouraging the cycling community to attend the sentencing in mass. The justice system has a history of letting us down, we need to show the courts that we count and that we care.
Sentencing is set for 10am Friday January 30th in courtroom 3A -201 La Porte Ave Fort Collins, Colorado 80521. Please be there a few minutes early.
I will be riding to the courthouse, I encourage you to do the same.
Please bring your helmet into the courtroom with you but do not wear it. You are also encouraged to wear other cycling attire.
This is not meant to be a protest or a critical mass exercise, rather a show of solidarity.
