2022 Press Release

Bike Sports is back in 2022 after a kick-ass 2021, operating under the same theme of “never not made it”. 2021 saw five podiums at seven gravel races for Whitney Allison’s inaugural gravel season including three wins. The racing season for her was capped off with a win at Belgian Waffle Ride- Utah. The pandemic year was challenging in it’s own right coming back into race form and into a new discipline. Bike Sports also overcame unique-to-them challenges such as redoing a vintage 1962 Utopia Panorama from scratch, making it 100% solar-powered, driving it all over the country in a 1997 Ford F250 running on waste vegetable oil. The highlight was having the axle break just outside of Whitefish, Montana, after The Last Best Ride, getting a 55 mile tow, driving home. And then doing a 46 hour cannonball run back up to essentially Canada to retrieve this dumb labor of love a week later.

2022 sees Zack Allison shift away from a focus on criteriums to gravel where his potato famine genes will be put to the ultimate test with a focused season. This year the team will focus on the Belgian Waffle Ride Quadrupel Crown of Gravel, along with Unbound Gravel, Crusher in the Tushar, and Big Sugar. Several one-off events round out the calendar including Gravel Worlds, SBT GRVL, Boulder Roubaix, Pony Xpress 160, and Co2uT. Bike Sports partners for 2022 are the best balance of tech and fun: ENVE Composites, WTB, Bonfire Effect, Joje Bar, Eliel Cycling, Shimano, NBS, Lazer, Muc-Off.

Outside of the racing calendar, Zack and Whitney will continue to expand FoCo Fondo, including the community training ride series and women’s ride, run Gravel Graceland Experiences and Routes, the Bike Sports Fit Studio, and several video series focused on community and longevity in sport. It’s going to be a great year and they can’t wait to share it with you.

Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant

Much like New Belgium Brewing, the Rio is synonymous with Fort Collins cycling. Patrick McGaughran, the owner of all five Colorado Rios opened the first restaurant here in Fort Collins in 1986. He first sponsored an elite road team in 1999. His title sponsorship of that team continues nearly 25 years later and has catapulted riders like Tejay van Garderen, Chad Haga and Mara Abbot into the World Tour. In addition to the elite road team, Pat has advertised on YGR since 2009 (my second…
