We know you are probably aware that we’ve had two tragic motor vehicle-cyclist fatalities in Larimer Co during July. With cyclists dying on our roads for the simple reason that they were riding their bikes, the bicycling community has decided it’s time join together now in a common voice for change.

Bike Fort Collins and Your Group Ride will be hosting a town hall meeting to bring the cycling community together with representatives from state and local agencies for a discussion around how we can make our roads safer for cyclists. The goal is to focus on two areas: 1. Education and advocacy and 2. How we can potentially influence appropriate penalties for taking a life.

We are in the process of convening an expert panel to lead the discussion and initially have commitments from Senator John Kefalas, Councilman Ross Cunniff, Lt. Craig Horton of the FCPS, Tessa Greegor of FC Bikes, Brad Tucker cycling attorney and a representative from Bicycle Colorado. We anticipate adding representatives from the legal profession, the County Sheriffs Department, the Colorado State Patrol, Larimer county road and bridge, and potentially a County Commissioner.

This is an open meeting and will provide an opportunity for members of the community to comment and offer their ideas. Coming out of this meeting we’d like a robust collection of ideas, a plan to move them forward, and a team to make it all happen. Hope to see you then.

This is an all hands meeting.  If you ride a bike in Northern Colorado, in any capacity, you are strongly encouraged to attend.
