CSP is asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver who hit and killed a bicyclist on North Shields between Willox and 287 overnight Wednesday.

The hit-and-run crash happened between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday near the 2200 block of North Shields Street about half a mile south of U.S. 287, according to the State Patrol. Luis A. Loma was found dead about 7:30 a.m. Thursday. A bicycle was nearby.

CSP said vehicle parts found at the crash scene lead them to believe the vehicle involved is a gray 2009 or 2010 Toyota Rav4 or a similar SUV. The SUV will have heavy damage to its front right bumper and windshield. Based on vehicle parts still at the crime scene, YGR has identified the actual color to be similar to Toyota’s, Pyrite Mica. If the vehicle is a 2009-2010 Rav4 as stated by CSP, it will look similar to the image below. Toyota used Pyrite Mica on the 3rd generation Rav4s from 2009 until 2012, later generation Rav4s, Tundras, Tacomas and Sequoias.

Anyone with information on the crash or on a suspect driver is asked to call the State Patrol at 303-239-4501 or 911.

The stretch of road where the crash took place is slated to have six-foot shoulders added by Larimer County in the Spring of 2022.
