The horse is definitely dead but as promised, we’re going to hit it a few more times. Why? Because Maxwell is an important piece of the Fort Collins trail system that underwent some very necessary trail repairs and people have strong opinions about those repairs and how they were carried out. Some trail users think Fort Collins Natural Areas did a great job and made the trail more resilient and more accessible. Some people think the ‘improvements’ effectively destroyed an iconic trail and only exacerbated the chance for user conflicts and erosion. Some didn’t like the way the process was handled by Fort Collins Natural Areas and what this could mean for future trail refresh projects. Still, others believe the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

YGR put out a call for opinion pieces and we received articles from all sides. Every article received is published and in its entirety.

Thanks to Jack Ellmer, Cody Stephenson, Anna Kelso, AJ Johnson, Amanda DelCore and Reno Toffoli for their contributions.
