It’s time to roll—and the clock is ticking. The 2025 MyCycle Fort Collins campaign is live, and this year we’re working on a shorter timeline to make a bigger impact. With a condensed fundraising window, we aim to get 300 high-quality bikes and helmets into the hands of second graders at PSD’s six Title 1 schools earlier in the fall, giving kids more time to ride to school and build confidence on two wheels. We’re also piloting a program to provide bikes to 5th graders at Putnam Elementary. Whether you’re rallying your team for the Team Challenge or donating solo as a privateer, now’s the time to step up, ride proud, and help shape a generation of cyclists.

The YGR Team Challenge

One of the most exciting—and effective—parts of the MyCycle campaign is the Team Challenge, which was created to rally the entire Northern Colorado cycling community around the cause. With thousands of local riders, from race teams and clubs to weekend gravel grinders and solo commuters, the Team Challenge taps into that energy to help fund hundreds of bikes for local kids. It doesn’t matter if you ride for a structured team or roll solo—everyone has a place in this effort. The challenge isn’t just about raising money; it’s about building a culture of giving within our cycling scene and showing what’s possible when we come together for something bigger than ourselves.

Details below.

Here’s How the Team Challenge Works

There are two categories:

1. Roster Percentage Competition
How many bikes did your team fund, compared to how many members you have? A small team with full participation can outshine a huge team with lukewarm support.

2. Total Bikes Donated
This one’s simple: the team that donates the most bikes overall wins.

Winners in both categories get bragging rights, coverage on YGR, and either beer or pizza courtesy of Bike Fort Collins.

Don’t Have a Team? Join as a Privateer

Not affiliated with a team? That’s fine. Just list “Privateer” or “Unaffiliated” when you donate. If enough privateers show up, we’ll host a celebration for all of you.

The Poudre Sunrise Cyclists swept both categories last year. If your team’s got the guts to challenge them—or if you’re flying solo and want to make a statement—now’s your chance.

Bike Costs and Details

We’re again working with Scheels to provide Retrospec Koda bikes and helmets—solid, quality bikes that will last kids for years.

  • 20” Koda + helmet: $190

  • 24” Koda 7-speed + helmet: $280

Can’t donate a full bike? Every contribution helps. Partial donations are welcome and appreciated.

Who This Supports

  • Second graders at: Putnam, Bauder, Irish, Laurel, Harris, Linton

  • Fifth grade pilot at Putnam

  • Local kids only—100% of funds stay in Northern Colorado

This program started in 2020 under the Wish for Wheels FoCo banner, created by YGR, Bike Fort Collins, Trent Newcomer, and Wish for Wheels. It’s now run solely by Bike Fort Collins, giving it more flexibility to serve other ages and districts moving forward.

Whether you donate as a team or as a privateer, we hope you’ll help us keep this tradition rolling.

How and Why it Started

What began as a simple idea during the early days of COVID—to get more kids safely riding to school—has grown into one of the most impactful youth cycling initiatives in Northern Colorado. Launched in 2020 by Your Group Ride, Bike Fort Collins, Wish for Wheels, and local supporter Trent Newcomer, the program has now evolved into MyCycle Fort Collins, with Bike Fort Collins serving as the sole nonprofit administering the effort. Since that first round of bikes, the program has provided roughly 300 bikes each year, totaling over 1,500 brand-new bikes and helmets delivered to local second graders. In 2025, we’re expanding that reach with a new pilot program for 5th graders. The goal has always been the same: remove barriers to mobility, independence, and joy. A bike isn’t just a toy—it’s a way to get to school, to visit friends, to explore, and to gain confidence. When kids ride more, our whole community gets stronger, healthier, and more connected.
