Fort Collins’ Mike Williams finally got his National Time Trial record over the weekend in Moriarty, New Mexico. Some of you will remember he won the 40k masters men 55-59 race in 2021 but his skinsuit and bike were not UCI legal. This year in the 60-64 40k age group, he won without issue with a time of 51:47. The previous time was 51:54. Mike said his power numbers were low due to a recent COVID infection but he managed to win by a slim margin of just seven seconds.
Jim Dickerson was second in the 65-69 age group. His current record of 25:36.17 in that category stands. Next year, he’ll age up to the 70-74 age group.
Mike joins current or past NoCo residents: Jim Dickerson, Matt Skrdla, George Simpson (previous record holder), Olivia Cummins, Chris Stockburger and Alex Coelho as a national record holder. Congrats Mike!

Moriarty
The certified 20k and 40k time trial courses in Moriarty, New Mexico, are notoriously fast with roughly 100 feet of elevation change (half that for the 20km), reasonably good chip seal, and are at an elevation of 6200 feet. Almost all US road time trial records have been set at Moriarty. The race remembers Paula Higgins, a champion Albuquerque cyclist who was killed by a driver in 2006. The races are promoted by New Mexico Velosport & NMBRA.
