Coach Jeremy Norris has the race report from this past weekend’s Colorado High School Cycling League’s Haymaker Classic mtb race in Eagle.

Race #3 of the season was a fast, flowy course which made for tight, high speed racing in every category. The classic Corkscrew descent was closed for the race due to blown out conditions but the iconic cheering section moved to a jump and the last few berms in view of the exciting sprint finishes.

The Freshman Boys’ race was once again dominated by Desmon Mohr from Rocky Mountain. He and second place put over three minutes into third place before Desmond took the win.
Freshman Girls also saw a repeat winner in Korynne Collins, also Rocky Mountain, who rode solo to win.
Sophomore boys saw a massive show of power from NoCo with Connor Hatzis(Independant-Ciclismo) in 8th, Nate Lowe(Horsetooth Composite) in 5th, Caden Paroz 4th with Rocky teammate Max Abernathey in 3rd, Zachary Watkins(Horsetooth) in 2nd, and Callen Solley from Pouder in 1st. With the Colorado League’s 5 deep podiums, that made for a NoCo podium sweep!
Sophomore Girls saw Olivia Helgerson from Fort Collins High School in 6th, the only NoCo rider in her field.
JV Boys was a race that got Coach Jeremy(a sucker for sprint finishes) buzzing for the rest of the day. Page Ligget (Independant-Ciclismo) took a masterful win 0.06s ahead of 2nd place, a friend from Spearfish, less than 0.01s ahead of third. The decision came down to a photo. 30 seconds later Kannon Johnson(Rocky) finished 5th, 0.1s behind 4th and 0.6s ahead of 6th. Perry Anderson(Rocky) rounded out the top 10.
Alexa Naschold snagged another top 10 spot in JV Girls with a strong 7th place.
Varsity Boys was fast as ever and saw Rocky riders Michael Delgadillo and Jake Mcdill in 10th and 9th, Abe Cooley(Fort Collins) in 6th, and Andrew Morris in 2nd.
Alaina Smith from Fort Collins pulled off another podium in Varsity Girls with a strong 3rd place with her teammate Kate Miller bringing it in for another solid top ten in 8th.

Rocky Mountain won the day in the D2 team competition and maintains a healthy lead over 2nd place. Fort Collins finished 2nd in the D3 team competition and is neck and neck with Spearfish going into the final race of the regular season. Just Nathrop and State Championships left in the 2023 season!
Let’s GO, NoCo!

Norris races professionally for Health Advocates Racing Team, Coaches High School with Ciclismo Racing, and is a coach with Ignition Coaching.
