Amy Weiss, the driver convicted of killing Oliver Stratton, is scheduled to report to the Larimer County Jail’s Alternative Sentencing Department today, April 11th. Weiss will serve her two one-year sentences concurrently in the Work Release Program. She’s effectively serving half the sentence County Court Judge Kraig Ecton handed down in March. She will pay no fines and will have access to her own clothing, personal pillow, makeup, and cell phone. The convicted killer will be allowed to leave the department for up to 12 hours per day to attend work, school, treatment classes, court-ordered appointments, bank, medical appointments, legal appointments, and church. The judge even granted her a furlough to leave the facility and the state to attend a family graduation in Arizona. Meanwhile, the Strattons will not be attending any of Ollie’s graduations.

Weiss opted not to appeal the original sentence and was no longer employed with the Poudre School District when she was allowed into the work release program.

On March 7, 2025, Judge Ecton sentenced Amy Weiss for the 2023 death of 10-year-old Ollie Stratton. Weiss received 365 days in jail for careless driving resulting in death and 364 days for tampering with physical evidence—both misdemeanors, to be served concurrently with work release. Fines were suspended, and 12 points were added to her driver’s license.

Weiss, a former teacher, was proven to have been texting and calling moments before hitting Ollie, who was biking near his home in Timnath, Colorado, on August 2nd, 2023.. She also deleted messages and gave false statements after the crash.

In memory of Ollie and to advocate for safer roads, the Strattons will be hosting Ollie’s Ride for Change on June 7th. More information can be found here.

Please don’t text and drive.
