The Colorado State University cycling team is sending a strong roster to the first ever Collegiate Gravel National Championships this weekend in Turkey, Texas. The race is part of the Valley of Tears gravel race weekend and marks the first national championship for collegiate racers.

Turkey sits in the Texas Panhandle roughly halfway between Amarillo and Lubbock, placing the riders in wide open ranch country known for rolling dirt roads and steady wind.

The collegiate races take place Saturday morning with separate men’s and women’s fields. Each race will cover 50 miles over a single lap with approximately 1,648 feet of elevation gain. The course follows a loop through the rural farm and ranch roads surrounding town. Route-  Collegiate Gravel National Championships Route.

The forecast calls for morning temps in the low 40s, and a high around 60 degrees. Winds will be from north northeast at 10 to 20 mph, which will definitely split the fields and reward riders who mind the draft. Thankfully, NoCo riders have experience with this.

Collegiate teams are allotted eight starting positions per gender. The men’s squad includes nine riders listed below, with one serving as an alternate who will race the open event if not needed for the collegiate lineup.
