Fort Collins Natural Areas has announced the opening of the Elk Meadow Trail at Bobcat Ridge on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The new 1.75-mile easy to moderate trail winds through the valley, crosses seasonal drainages, and skirts rock formations with views of redrock cliffs and foothills. Most importantly, Elk Meadow provides the first public access to the 600-acre parcel north of Bobcat Ridge, which was acquired in two phases: 414 acres in April 2022 and 261 acres in early 2023. The purchases were made possible through voter-supported sales tax funding.

The trail can be accessed from the historic cabin area or the northeast section of the Valley Loop Trail, 1.5 miles from the trailhead.

An opening day celebration will take place at the historic cabin from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with cake, stickers, activities for kids, and guided hikes on the new trail at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. (Reminder: no dogs are allowed at Bobcat Ridge.)

The Elk Meadow Trail is open to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. While it’s a short addition, it opens up new terrain and offers another way to mix up your Bobcat Ridge ride.

The new trail is located within the red boundary.
