Gear Swap December 10th

The Bike Gear Garage Sale will happen at FoCo DoCo (215 N College Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80524) on Saturday, December 10th from 10AM-12PM and is presented by the Queer Gravel Series group. This new group seeks to build community and fitness for queer people in Fort Collins and along the front range.

As part of this garage sale, there is also a donations call for gently used kits that are no longer needed and winter riding gear, to benefit Native Women Ride, Bike Kitty, Queer Gravel.

SOAPSTONE AND RED MOUNTAIN CLOSE FOR THE SEASON

Both Soapstone Prairie Natural Area and Red Mountain Open Space have closed for the season. Soapstone, managed by Fort Collins Natural Areas and Red Mountain, managed by Larimer County Natural Resources, close annually from Dec 1st until March 1st due to "sensitive wintering range for large mammals and low recreational opportunities."

Advocacy Update: Overland MTB

Despite the cooler weather, the Overland Mountain Bike Association, our local IMBA chapter, has still been hard at work. This week they started on a major realignment & rebuild of Roaring Creek Trail in Poudre Canyon. Weather permitting, work for the next 3-4 weeks will focus on the initial 1/4-mile. Work will resume in late spring after the snow melts, with completion planned for early summer 2023.

Strength Training At Home: Part One

Most cyclists (all?) need to spend more time in the gym, especially those of us who have started racing in the Master's categories. YGR reached out to Level 1 USAC coach Zack Allison to get some tips on strength training and specifically strength training at home.  In this article series, Zack will start with the most common home gym amenities and activities. He'll then move on to periodization and how to maximize your strength workouts for cycling throughout the season. From there, he’ll look at some potential purchases to enhance your home gym experience and will conclude with plyometrics and how to work that into your protocol.

Cross of the North 2022 Results & Photos

Cross of the North ushered in a new era this weekend as Rob Howe took over as Race Director, Chris Kinneer as Course Director, and former DC CX Race Director, Matt Donahue came on as the Technical Director. The all-volunteer trio, who ride for 1st City Cycling, did an amazing job of demonstrating that cross indeed "isn't Dead." The 10th edition of COTN had 443 raccers on Saturday, and 344 on Sunday for a total of 787 as compared to 790 in 2021. Those totals are down from previous years (in line with the national trend) which saw 966 in 2018 and 879 in 2019. The race did not take place in 2020 due to COVID-19.

YGR has learned from several anonymous sources that Chris Sugai has been removed from his position as president of Niner Bikes.

Cross of the North 2022 Info Dump

Cross of the North is coming up on Saturday and Sunday, November 5th and 6th at New Belgium Brewing. The weekend will feature two full days of racing for all ages and abilities from Striders to full-time cyclocross professionals. In addition to the Fat Tire beer garden, Corndoggies, Matador Mexican Grill and Buzzthru Coffee will be on hand with food and drink. Even if you're not racing or volunteering, the party/heckle zone is not to be missed.
