Fort Collins Police Services announced the arrest of Santos Martinez with regards to the May 27, 2022 hit and run of a cyclist near the Fort Collins Budweiser Plant. At approximately 4:30 pm Friday, June 24th Martinez was listed as an inmate of the Larimer County Jail by 5:00 pm that same day he was no longer listed in the LCSO inmate database.
His first court appearance will take place on Thursday, June 30th at 8:30 am. 8th Judicial District Court- Larimer County-Div 4C. Case #D352022CR923

CASE UPDATE: DRIVER ARRESTED FOR CAR VS BICYCLE HIT & RUN
Fort Collins Police investigators identified the hit-and-run suspect as Santos Martinez, 42, of Severance. He was arrested on June 24 and booked into the Larimer County Jail. He was issued a $1,000 cash bond and faces the following charges:
- Vehicular Assault – Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury (class 5 felony)
- Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Injury Accident (class 4 felony)
- Reckless Endangerment (class 2 misdemeanor)
- Careless Driving – Vulnerable Road User (class 1 traffic misdemeanor)
All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement, and all parties must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

*****Update: May 29, 2022*****
On May 29, 2022 a citizen noticed a gray Nissan Titan parked at City Park in Fort Collins which matched the suspect vehicle description for the hit and run that occurred on May 27th at the NE I-25 Frontage Road north of Mountain Vista Drive. The citizen was aware that police were looking for this vehicle because of the Medina Alert that was issued by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation at the request of Fort Collins Police. The Nissan Titan was missing the front passenger side mirror and had front passenger side damage as well. The citizen contacted police and officers responded and located the vehicle.
“Due to a Medina Alert and an observant community, we were able to quickly locate the vehicle involved in this crash. This case highlights the strong partnership between the community and law enforcement to solve crimes,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Traffic Enforcement Unit. The Fort Collins Police Department would like to thank the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in getting this Medina Alert out to the public as well. The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.

On May 27, 2022 at approximately 8:19 pm, Fort Collins Police were notified of an injury crash between a bicyclist and pickup truck on the I-25 NE Frontage Road just north of Mountain Vista Drive. The pickup truck fled the scene going southbound. The cyclist, a 35 year old male was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Due to the severity of his injuries, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to further investigate the collision.
Through the investigation, officer’s obtained information that the suspect vehicle which fled was a gray or silver, 4 door, Nissan Titan with a temporary license plate. The vehicle is missing its front passenger’s side mirror and may possibly have other front passenger side damage.
“Memorial weekend typically marks the start of the summer season and when more cyclists are on the roadway. We encourage everyone to be vigilant of all roadway users, and when a collision occurs, to always remain at the scene,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
