Here’s Chris Ellmer’s rundown of the Colorado High School Mountain Bike League races up in Leadville.
Greetings YGR fans!
This past weekend the Colorado High School MTB League brought their sea of EZ-ups to Leadville for the 2nd race in the season. Beautiful fall colors, amazing single track and that welcoming community we all know Leadville to be made this a great event. We had around 500 high school racers competing in the rare air with three teams from Fort Collins representing. Weather played us a challenging hand again this weekend with cool temps and rain forcing racers to dig deep in their souls and find the grit (and their rain gear) to get it done. As you can imagine, our local girls and boys put on a great show and racked up the points to keep our teams in the hunt for podium time.
Current series standings for Division 2 out of 27 teams:
Fort Collins High 4th
Poudre High 7th
Rocky Ridge* 10th
*Rocky Ridge is a composite team with Rocky Mountain High and Ridge View
Thanks to all the local support from parents, coaches and fans for giving these kids what they need to put mountain biking on the map of high school sports. Give these student racers a pat on the back (if you can catch them)!
Our next race is in Elbert at Peaceful Valley on October 6th.
