NoCo Racers at Gravel Nationals

Northern Colorado has 17 racers registered for USA Cycling's Gravel Nationals in Gering, Nebraska, this coming Sunday. Greg Scanlan hopes to repeat as the men's 50-54 champion on the 88-mile course. That category, in particular, will be fun to watch as it has four strong NoCo racers: Scanlan, Skrdla, Workman, and Dority.  After winning road nationals, Joe  Zukowski hopes to win the 13-14 age group, perhaps with some help from his younger brother Ben, who is also racing in that category on the 25-mile course. Also, look for Whit and Zack to have strong rides in the elites on the 131-mile course. The full NoCo roster with race distances is below and will be updated with results as they come in. As of Tuesday morning, 531 racers were registered.

Windsor Shorttrack

The town of Windsor is hosting short-track mountain bike races to celebrate the opening of the Kyger Open Space. The free races, which take place on Saturday, September 21st, are on a one-mile course throughout the open space. There are races for all ages and abilities.

Colo High School Cycling League Frisco Race Results

The Platte Division of the Colorado High School Mountain Bike League got off to a great start at the opening race of the season, the Frisco Bay Invitational, on August 24-25. The Ciclismo Racing Team, led by coach Andy Clark, had a fantastic showing with 50 athletes from four Fort Collins High Schools, with 12 riders placing in the top 10 in their divisions. Riders completed 2-3 laps of the 5.9-mile course, which offered 552 feet of climbing per lap on a fast, multi-surface course.

Council Approves Bike Park Study & Civic Assembly Process

We continue to make slow and steady progress toward a world-class bike park here in Fort Collins. On Tuesday, the Fort Collins City Council passed two ordinances that help the cause. We still have a long way to go, but this is progress.

Bobcat Ridge to Remain Closed

According to Fort Collins Natural Areas, Bobcat Ridge Natural Area will remain closed until at least the end of August.

NoCo Racers at Road Nationals

Of the five NoCo racers at Road Nationals, TWO came home as National Champions, one earned a silver medal and we had two showings on the extended podium.  Most of you heard about Joe Zukoski taking the 13-14-year-old road race, but did you know he was also 5th in the TT, Desmond Mohr was 5th in the crit, and Mike Williams won his time trial? It's all true. Old Jim Dickerson was also second in his TT. Tony Ricco also had a strong showing in all three races. The road races, criteriums, and time trials took place in Augusta, GA, July 22nd, 23rd and 24th. 
Congrats to Joe, Mike, Desmond, Tony and Jim.

Overland is Hiring

Overland Mountain Bike Association, our local IMBA chapter, is hiring an Outreach Coordinator. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week job with a pay rate of $20-$24 per hour. The position closes on August 31st.

NoCo Racers in the 2024 CTR

he 2024 Colorado Trail Race grand depart will be at Waterton Canyon, just outside Denver, at 4:AM, Sunday, August 11th. Fort Collins has two racers taking part this year, Jimi Killen and Leland Oconnor. You can follow along as they attempt to complete the 500-mile self-supported mtb race through the Colorado high country via the TrackLeaders map on YGR.

Zack Allison’s North South Race Report

It's a bit delayed, but here's Zack Allison's North South Colorado race report. After scratching in 2023, Zack won the 600 mile 2024 version with an unofficial time of 3 days 5 hours 12 minutes.

Magnus White Memorial Ride & Rally

The White Line fountain is holding a memorial ride and rally to honor Magnus White and demand improved infrastructure to protect vulnerable road users. The ride will take place at 9:30 on Sunday, August 11th. Registration is required.

2024 FoCo Fondo Results

Congrats to everyone who took part in the 2024 FoCo Fondo, and a huge thanks to everyone who worked and volunteered to make the event such a great community event. Full results are below. Special shoutout to Cory Flood for taking the win in the 60-mile race with an impressive solo win from 20 miles out. Way to keep the trophy in Fort Collins for at least the 3rd year running.
