The 2024 Colorado Trail Race grand depart will be at Waterton Canyon, just outside Denver, at 4:AM, Sunday, August 11th. Fort Collins has two racers taking part this year, Jimi Killen and Leland Oconnor. You can follow along as they attempt to complete the 500-mile self-supported mtb race through the Colorado high country via the TrackLeaders map below.
If you’d like to take on a self-supported race a little closer to home, consider the High Plains Drifter on September 13th. The 330-mile gravel race takes place in Larimer and Weld Counties. Riders depart from Twin Rivers Community Park, 1501 65th Ave in Greeley, at 7 a.m. Information here.
The Colorado Trail Race (CTR) is a 500-mile behemoth with a staggering 70,000 feet of elevation gain, twisting through the heart of the Colorado Rockies from Denver to Durango (in 2024). Over 300 miles of this journey are on single-track, reaching altitudes as high and unforgiving as 13,200 feet.
Unlike traditional races, the CTR is a self-supported adventure without entry fees, prize money, or even official registration. You’re on your own to conquer its challenges, guided only by a route description and a suggested start time. While there’s no obligation to participate, we strongly encourage supporting the Colorado Trail Foundation, the guardians of this incredible resource.
