YGR has been updating you on several big paved path projects coming online in the next year, the Siphon Overpass, the Harmony Crossing, and our final update is on arguably the most exciting one, the Poudre River Trail connection between Timnath and Windsor.
Thanks in part to an unseasonably warm fall, Connell Resources crews have made major progress. Less than 100 yards of pavement the bridge over the Greeley Number 2 Canal and some fencing are all that remain.
According to Zac Wiebe, Planning and Natural Resources Manager for Larimer County, most of the concrete work is complete, with the remaining pours set for tie-in points near the bridge, County Road 32E, and the Kyger Trail. The bridge is currently being fabricated, though a delivery and installation date has not been set. Current work includes installing bridge abutments at the canal and completing culvert work around the county road.
The contractor for the project is Connell Resources, a local company, with a subcontractor handling the bridge fabrication. Another key piece of the project involves significant fencing along the trail, which will be bid out under a separate contract soon. Both the fencing and bridge need to be installed before the trail can open.
“We’re super excited to get this one finished and will share more detail on timing as we progress,” Wiebe said.
This mile-long stretch marks the final gap in the 45-mile Poudre River Trail, a project more than 40 years in the making. Once complete, users will be able to ride, run, or walk continuously from Bellvue to Greeley. The paved multi-use trail has been built over decades through partnerships between Larimer County, the City of Fort Collins, the Towns of Timnath and Windsor, Weld County, Greeley, and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The two million dollar project, funded by Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), CDOT, and other grants, is expected to be completed by spring 2026, though no official opening date has been announced.
When finished, the Poudre River Trail will include roughly 18 miles within Fort Collins and another 22 miles managed by Larimer County, Timnath, Windsor, Weld County, and Greeley, linking communities along the Poudre River through scenic open space and wildlife areas.
