Wrapping up his thirteenth year of bike commuting, Tom Sweeney—a PSD fifth-grade teacher, cyclist, and photographer—has continued his steady streak, riding to and from school every day since January 18, 2012. Along the way, he documents the seasons and everyday moments through his photography, capturing the world as it shifts around his daily route.

As the 2024/25 school year comes to a close, Tom has once again compiled a slideshow of his favorite images from the year, set to music and shared with the school community. Though the direct ride from his home in west Fort Collins to Bennett Elementary is just 3.5 miles, his interest in photography often leads him to explore side routes and new perspectives.

If you’re interested in more of Tom’s work, check out his book Lisbon to Shanghai in Four Summers, which chronicles a multi-year bike journey across the globe

Gib’s NY Bagels

As I mentioned last week, I’m putting in a big push to add new advertisers to YGR during the month of September, and I’m stoked to welcome another true Fort Collins staple to the family: Gib's NY Bagels. Gib’s isn’t just the spot for a legit New York style bagel, they’ve been fueling the Northern Colorado community for over three decades. I’ve been using Gib’s as my unofficial remote office for years, so it’s pretty rad to see their banner flying on the site. They’ve always been huge supporters…
