Ciclismo Racing’s coach, Jeremy Norris, has the race report from this past weekend’s Colorado High School Cycling League’s races in Steamboat.

This past weekend was the second Colorado League race for our NoCo high school teams! Following a fast and punchy first race in Frisco, the kids got to test their climbing legs on Steamboat climbs.

55 NoCo athletes tackled the course and rode incredible rides against all the fastest from our quadrant of the Colorado League.

First to race were the Sophomore Boys with Fossil Ridge’s Grant Girdler finishing inside the top 10 in 7th place! Rocky Mountain’s Shane McDill was the next top finisher just outside the top 10 in 11th.

Next, our JV Boys put one rider on the podium with Rocky Mountain’s Lachlan Morrison in 3rd place! Rowan Christiansen from Fort Collins was the next NoCo finisher with a strong 11th place.

The NoCo Varsity Girls had an incredible ride with Korryne Collins(Rocky) on the podium in 2nd, Alaina Smith(FoCo) also on the podium in 5th and Isabel Troxell inside the top 10 in 8th! With many world class athletes coming through the ranks in the Colorado League, three riders in the top 10, two on the podium in a varsity race is an incredible achievement!

Varsity Boys saw Fort Collins’ Abe Cooley on the podium in 4th place! The next NoCo finishers were Callen Solley(FoCo) and Zachary Watkins(Fossil) finishing together in 22nd and 23rd.

Next up, JV Girls saw Darcie Henley(Rocky) in 7th and Samantha Mackay in 9th with Olivia Helgerson not far outside the top 10 in 12th!

Freshman Girls saw Rocky Mountain’s Emmaline Jarnevich in 2nd place! The next NoCo finisher was Greyson Spruell from Poudre in 15th.

Last off the line for FoCo was Freshman Boys where Hudson Collins rode to a commanding win for Rocky Mountain! Next from NoCo, Rocky teammate Benjamin Brown in 14th.

In the battle for the season overall, Fort Collins High school sits 1st in Division 3 with Poudre and Fossil in 4th and 5th respectively. Rocky Mountain sits 3rd in Division 1.

Next up for our NoCo athletes is the classic course out in Eagle on September 22nd! Let’s GO NoCo!

About the Colorado High School Cycling League and how it works in NoCo

  • The Colorado High School Cycling League consists of teams from the Rocky Mountains, with participating schools in Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
  • The league is divided into four regions. NoCo kids race in the Platte region, which includes athletes from three states and 18 high schools/composite metro areas.
  • NoCo kids race for their high schools: Rocky Mountain, Fort Collins, Poudre, and Fossil Ridge. If they do not attend one of these schools for whatever reason (home school, not in PSD, etc.), they race for whatever high school is closest to their home address. They can live in other cities and race for Fort Collins high schools if their high school doesn’t have a team.
  • All NoCo athletes race and train under the Ciclismo Racing umbrella. Ciclismo organizes practices, pays coaches, purchases clothing, manages race day operations, develops training plans, and does a litany of other things. Sendtown Bike Club no longer has a high school mountain bike program.
  • Ciclsimo Racing has 65 athletes and 14 coaches.
  • There are boys and girls varsity, junior varsity, sophomore, and freshman races.
  • Platte Region races occur in Frisco, Eagle, Steamboat, and Nathrop, and the State Championships are in Glenwood Springs.
  • During the opening weekend, over 1400 high school athletes participated in races in Frisco and Leadville.
