Weld County Gravel Stage Race Returns

The Weld County Gravel Stage Race returns to Northern Colorado as the NoCo Gravel Stage race this Spring. Some of you may remember Drew Chapman organized a free, Strava-based summer-long gravel stage race a few years back. Drew and Justin Fields are working together to rejuvenate the series for the 2023 season.

Ciclismo Racing’s Local Race Program Reg Opens 4/1

Registration for Ciclismo Racing's Local Race Program opens on April 1st. This program is for girls and boys between 13 and 18 years old who are interested in racing mountain bikes here in Colorado.  This program is a skills and fun first milieu designed around athlete and community development. Athletes will participate in three weekly practices and three summer races between May 20th and July 24th.

Chris Sugai Moves on After Niner

Chris Sugai has joined Gates as general manager of Gates Global Mobility. Sugai led Niner Bikes for 18 years. He was dismissed as the president of the brand he founded in Oct of 2022 by United Wheels, which owns Niner, VAST, Huffy, Buzz, and other bike manufacturers.

Overland MTBA Kickoff Party-2023

Overland Mountain Bike Association's annual season kickoff party is coming up on April 20th. The evening will include a silent auction, Rio margs, new merch reveals, info on upcoming trail projects, social rides, campouts, patrols and bike parks.

Dude Dad Joins Hughes Movement

Local video creator (and former bike mechanic) Taylor Calmus, aka Dude Dad, has joined the movement to turn the former Hughes stadium property into a bike park. Many locals were surprised when Calmus approached the podium during a recent city council meeting to speak out in favor of the bike park and again the next day when he showed up at the former college football stadium to be interviewed by Denver 7. The father of three (soon to be four) is well-versed in riding dirt jumps, pump tracks and helping to build parks. Clamus started riding BMX bikes when he was nine, and after moving to California, he started riding dirt jumps.

Overland Hires Membership & Outreach Coordinator

Overland Mountain Bike Association announced today that it had hired Samantha Boon, formerly Samantha Welter, as its new Membership & Outreach Coordinator. According to the original job posting, Sam will work with OMBA’s Executive Director & Board of Directors on the Membership, Communications and Community Outreach programs.  Congrats, Sam.

Wednesday Open Ride Resumes

The Wednesday Open Ride (WOR) resumes for the season tonight. The spicy road group ride leaves from the Southwest corner of the Front Range Community College Library parking lot at 530.

Denver 7 Visits Hughes

During last week's city council meeting, roughly 50 people, most of whom were kids, spoke out in favor of the former Hughes Stadium property being turned into a bike park, and Denver 7 took note. Reporters from the channel reached out to Dave Dixon with Bike Fort Collins, asking for an interview at Hughes. Dave was out of pocket, but he reached out to Kenny Bearden with Overland Mountain Bike Association who in turn reached out to Ciclismo Coaching, Wolfpack Cycling, Sendtown Bike Club, Dude Dad and YGR. Within a few hours, we had 50 people waiting to greet a somewhat taken aback reporter. The video and article are below.

City Council Hughes Work Session Video
