The Fort Follies kicked off their 2026 season this week at Incycle Bicycles South. With 192 riders, the Fort Collins based nonprofit is the largest cycling team in Northern Colorado. Fossil Creek Trail Reopens

Fossil Creek Trail between Trilby and Carpenter roads reopened on Friday, February 27, 2026, a month ahead of its original March 31st completion date. The trail was temporarily closed for a joint stream rehabilitation project designed to improve flood resilience and stabilize stream banks. During the closure, crews completely removed two bridges, relocated and rerouted a third. These upgrades ensure the trail and surrounding ecosystem can better withstand seasonal irrigation flows and major storm events.

Soapstone, Red Mountain & Hermit Park Reopen

Soapstone Prairie Natural Area, Red Mountain Open Space and Hermit Park Open Space have reopened for the season. Soapstone Prairie Natural Area, managed by Fort Collins Natural Areas, Hermit Park Open Space and Red Mountain Open Space, managed by Larimer County, close annually in December and reopen on March 1st. The public open spaces close each winter due to the "sensitive wintering range for large mammals and low recreational opportunities."

Team Update: Corndoggies Cycling Team

A new team is rolling into Fort Collins in '26 with a roster that already feels established. The Corndoggies Cycling Team may describe itself as starting small, but with 28 riders, I'd beg to differ.

The team is led by John Lawyer, who has been active in the Fort Collins cycling scene for more than a decade as both a rider and a sponsor. He previously backed the Miiflo Cycling Team and privateer Michael Kanter before launching his own squad with the help of his wife SJ.

Built around partnership, accountability, and community, the team’s focus is simple: help riders achieve their personal goals, whether that means racing or reaching a big mileage milestone. When Lawyer launched Corndoggies in 2016, the cycling community showed up for him. Nearly ten years later, this team feels like a full circle moment.

Updated: Cyclist Found Deceased

I'm sad to report that a cyclist was found deceased in Old Town this morning.

Fort Collins Police Services responded to a report of an individual down near a bicycle at the intersection of Canyon Avenue, Magnolia Street, and Sherwood Street. The location is a three-way intersection.

The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators believe the incident involved a single bicyclist. There is no indication that a motor vehicle was involved.

The team will take on major events across the country while continuing its long-running Estes Challenge (riding to Estes from Loveland once a month, every month for over a decade) tradition and hosting Saturday shop rides from Breakaway Cycles throughout the season.

Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant

Much like New Belgium Brewing, the Rio is synonymous with Fort Collins cycling. Patrick McGaughran, the owner of all five Colorado Rios opened the first restaurant here in Fort Collins in 1986. He first sponsored an elite road team in 1999. His title sponsorship of that team continues nearly 25 years later and has catapulted riders like Tejay van Garderen, Chad Haga and Mara Abbot into the World Tour. In addition to the elite road team, Pat has advertised on YGR since 2009 (my second…
